Why choose granite worktops?
Natural stone, quarried in blocks and cut to your kitchen. It was formed under heat and pressure, which is why it handles both in a kitchen.
Yours alone
The pattern was formed in the ground, not printed. No two slabs are the same, and you see the actual one before it is cut.
A hot pan is not a problem
Granite came out of the ground hot. A casserole off the hob does not mark it, which is the difference people notice first against quartz.
It can be brought back
A scratch or a dull patch can be honed and re-polished on site years later. A man-made surface cannot be repaired that way.
Know before you buy
It is porous, so it is sealed when it is fitted and then roughly once a year. That takes a few minutes with a cloth, but a missed year and a spilled bottle of oil is a mark you will live with.
Looking after granite
Warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner, and reseal about yearly. Wipe oil and wine rather than leaving them.
