Porcelain

Why choose porcelain worktops?

Clay and minerals fired at well over 1,000 degrees into an ultra-compact slab. The same family as our floor and wall tiles, but made thin, large and dense enough to work on.

  • Heat and light do nothing

A pan straight off the hob does not mark it and the colour holds in sunlight, so it is the one surface here that also works outdoors.

  • No sealing, ever

Water absorption is effectively nil. There is nothing for a sealer to close, so the routine is a cloth.

  • Very hard to scratch

It is harder than a knife blade. A board still protects the knife.

  • Know before you buy

The edge is the vulnerable part. A heavy impact on a mitred corner can chip it, and the repair is less forgiving than on stone. It is also worth asking where the pattern sits: on some ranges the veining is on the surface rather than through the body, so a deep chip shows a different colour underneath.

  • Looking after porcelain

Warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner. Nothing else is needed.

Do porcelain worktops need sealing?

Never. Warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner. Nothing else is needed.

Can you put a hot pan on a porcelain worktop?

Yes. Porcelain takes the heat of a kitchen well; a trivet under a very hot pan is still a good habit.

How much do porcelain worktops cost?

It depends on the stone, the thickness, the size of the kitchen and the cut-outs for the sink and hob. Send us a photo or your measurements and we come back with a written quote for the whole kitchen, supplied and fitted. The quote is free.

Do you fit porcelain worktops in London?

Yes. We measure, cut and fit with our own team, and our showroom is at 20A Western Avenue, London W3. Leave your number and we call you to talk it through.

Can I see a porcelain worktop on a kitchen before I choose?

Yes. Every one of our 18 porcelain stones can be tried in the worktop visualiser, on the run, the splashback, the island and a waterfall end.
